We are very pleased to be able to offer five previously out-of-print titles by Dr. Klein and a new compilation of the  Journal 'Listening'.

Jean Klein is regarded as one most eloquent communicators to the West of non-duality in the second half of the 20th century.

"The striking thing about Dr. Klein is his independence. He teaches Advaita but he rarely uses its technical terms. In fact, he has developed his own vocabulary which consists mainly of the special use of words like 'listening', 'transparency', and so on. Nor does he refer back to the tradition for any kind of confirmation. He occasionally gives a quotation from Gaudapada but nothing more. He does not mention other teachers (such as Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj, to name only two of the best known). His is not an approach which makes itself more persuasive by making connections of this kind."

The Book of Listening

Listening was produced by the Jean Klein Foundation in single volumes (ten volumes in total) over a six year period from 1989 - 1995. The Journal was not widely circulated and we felt that the quality of the material it contained warranted reissuing in one volume.

As well as the original material by Jean Klein (Dialogues, Q&A's, prose pieces) interwoven are extracts selected by Jean from his own favourite literature and poetry, covering many ages and cultures, which complement the depth and richness of his own expression.

I Am

"The root of all desires is the one desire: to come home, to be at peace. There may be a moment in life when our compensatory activities, the accumulation of money, learning and objects, leaves us feeling deeply apathetic. This can motivate us towards the search for our real nature beyond appearances. We may find ourselves asking, 'Why am I here? What is life? Who am I?' Sooner or later any intelligent person asks these questions. What you are looking for is what you already are, not what you will become. What you already are is the answer and the source of the question. In this lies its power of transformation. It is a present actual fact. Looking to become something is completely conceptual, merely an idea. The seeker will discover that he is what he seeks and that what he seeks is the source of the inquiry."

About the author

Jean Klein, master of Advaita Vedanta in the tradition of Ramana Maharshi and Atmananda Krishna Menon and author of many books on non-dualism, spent several years in India going deeply into the subjects of Advaita and Yoga. In 1955 the truth of non-dualism became a living reality. From 1960 he taught in Europe and later in the United states. In this book he once again offers us one of the clearest and most direct expositions of Advaita in our times.

Living Truth

In the late 1980s Jean Klein was invited to give seminars in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. In this isolated, peaceful mountain setting, a small group of students gathered with their life questions. The conversations of the 1988 seminar were transcribed and printed as a pamphlet entitled Mount Madonna Dialogues, but it was felt that the contents of all of the seminars were rich and rewarding enough to be gathered into a more substantial publication. This book is the result. Time and timelessness meet in these dialogues that focus on the very root of human experience-that pointless point in which all apparent dualities are reconciled and all that lives has forever lived. Here in these still waters says Jean Klein is the essence and the All - that which neither knows nor needs the other in order to define itself.

Be Who You Are

Written in the lucid and eloquent style which characterises his work, each chapter is composed of an introductory discourse followed by questions and answers.

"The 'eternal present', our theme in these meetings, lies within the depth of ourselves. It is the eternal awareness of the Self. Seen from the Ultimate, the world projected by the mind appears and disappears, in other words, it "becomes". When we talk of time and space, it must be thoroughly understood that their reality is relative, it is a reality in the world of becoming. But beyond space-time is that stillness which knows no becoming."
